1957 Wimbledon  Althea Gibson becomes the first black player to win the prestigious Wimbledon tennis tournament.  She would win in Forest Hills later in the summer and the same two events again a year later.  By the end of her amateur career, Gibson would claim 5 singles and 6 doubles grand slams.
